The letter W (dots 2-4-5-6) breaks the Group 3 pattern. Louis Braille designed the braille system using the French alphabet, which did not include W as a standard letter in the 1820s. The number indicator appears only once at the start of a number. The number “2026” in braille = ⠼⠃⠚⠃⠋ (number indicator + B + J + B + F). A space or letter indicator ends the numeric mode.
